Tony's thoughts on Week 4's Maroon 5 dance duels
Some intense dance duels this week! Such a shame we lost Nicole! I think she was beginning to improve! But, if she had to withdraw, then she had to  withdraw.

MARK & KYM VS ERIN & TONY
As sad as it is, the winner was very clear in this duel. However, for some reason, part of me wants to  think that neither of these routines were perfect, but both put up a good fight  to get us to save them! Both have done  the Foxtrot before, and while Erin might have improved, Mark would have been  just that much better at it than she. Which is why Mark won, and Erin lost.

ALI & VAL VS USHER & KARINA
This duel almost seems unfair, but I would have to disagree to some point. We know Usher can dance, and he’s been improving each week, but so has Ali. I chose Ali for the win for a couple of  reasons: The first being that she’s done the Cha-Cha before. The second, and most important, was that Ali  has been improving dramatically over the last few weeks. I think another shot at the
Cha-Cha fueled  her to do well, and have fun with it! Also, this was Usher’s first time with the Cha-Cha. And while that wouldn’t have  given him any problems, I think it was hard to beat Ali’s charisma this time  around with the Cha-Cha. So that’s why I  chose Ali to win, and why Usher lost.

GERARD & NATALIE VS JOSH & LACEY
Another duel I’d say the winner was pretty clear.I don’t doubt that either man would have any problem acting out the emotions of the Rumba, but I feel like Gerard could have really smoldered on the floor with Natalie. Josh, I think, might still be working out  those awkward moments I
picture him having. Having said that, I would say that Josh might be improving, but Gerard  seems like a technical dancer to me, and I would say that’s where Josh needs to  pick up the slack. Gerard won because of  the smolder, and technique, I would say.

LANE & LINDSAY VS KIELY & HENRY
This would have been a tight one, in my mind, if they had a different dance. I think the biggest reason why I chose Kiely to win was because of the fact that she would have had a second consecutive week with the Paso Doble. Whatever wasn’t working for her last week, she and Henry would have gone back to the drawing board and perfected this dance. Lane, I think could have done very well with the Paso! But Kiely’s head start on the Paso is what gave her the win this week.

GUGU & MARK VS TERRY & CHERYL
Personally, I’m shocked Terry managed to make it through after last week’s mess of a dance. Both have done the Tango before, yes. But Gugu is proving to be a contender, and the winner was very clear in this duel. Gugu won because she’s improving, and I imagine her as a much better dancer than Terry. Terry lost because Gugu is simply a better dancer. I know that’s harsh, but it  would be the truth.

CARRIE & DEREK VS  SIGOURNEY & TRISTAN
I would have to say that Carrie was another clear winner, unfortunately. Despite Sigourney’s previous experience with the Cha-Cha, I see Sigourney still having some problems with it. I said in my pre-season thoughts about Carrie that she seems like a very versatile dancer, and I don’t think this Cha-Cha would have given her any problems. This was another case of the best dancer winning, which is why Carrie won over Sigourney.

Unfair is what I would call it, pitting all the high scorers against the low scorers. Of course all the high scorers would be safe. Makes little to no sense why the high scorers should not be competing at their level while the those getting lower scores should do the same. But it is what it is.

I love this Dancing with the Stars Game thing. It is so much fun to watch and vote but I have to agree. It did seem to favor the high scorers. The only ones I think were fair were Usher and Ali (scores were similar) and Lane and Kiely (Lane's dancing, which I have seen could match the cheetah girls any day, so it was fair).
