Tony's thoughts on Week 1
Wow! Week 1 was more fun than I thought it would be! Everyone seems to be pretty evenly
matched! This season will be as unpredictable as ever!
NICOLE & MAKSIM
Unfortunately, these two had the curse of going first this season. While the song has a bit of a Latin flare, at least I think so; I don’t think Nicole would have convinced me with her dancing.I said that I think her performances would be a little cold, and I think that was part of the problem here. I hope she improves next week!
SIGOURNEY & TRISTAN
A very valiant effort from these two, I thought! I think the song was fun, but a tad too fast for someone like Sigourney, and her technique was a bit poor. But that’s a given for week 1. She’s got a
lot to work on this season, and I do think she can improve, given she gets a slower ballroom dance next week.
DAVID & ALIONA
I said in my pre-season thoughts that David’s beginning dances might be a bit awkward, and I think that might have been the case here. I think David would need to loosen up a little! Have some fun! David could be a contender; he just really has to show us!
DONALD & PETA
Ay-yi. Donald strikes me as someone who could probably convince us he’s working hard, when he might not. I imagine it being rather basic, and Donald would be as stiff and wooden as ever. This
waltz was not as good as it could have been.
USHER & KARINA
Very fun, and very exuberant from Usher! I was expecting a Cha-Cha for him, but I’ll take the foxtrot! Usher, like David, could be a contender this season. I think his experience definitely helps him out a bit, and given which Latin dance next week, he could shoot up to the top next week!
TERRY & CHERYL
Yeah, I definitely see Terry being a very fun dancer, for sure! However, I said in my pre-season he’d need a bit of control, and I think lack of that is what really kind of turned me off to this. I just picture some wild and whacky routine. Hopefully he can tone it down next week in Ballroom!
KIELY & HENRY
A showstopper! I was a bit iffy Kiely could pull off a waltz this early, but she definitely impressed here! She does have to work on her Ballroom, I think. I imagine that her hold would be her biggest issue in future ballroom for her, but a promising start!
JOHN & ANNA
I wanted to like this, really, and I think part of me kind of does. John kind of impressed me, really! I was expecting something a bit worse than that, but I’m glad I was wrong! Yeah, he’s got a lot to work on, and I’m sure he’ll make it through the first elimination, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be!
GERARD & NATALIE
Wowie, wow! I know I scored this the same as Kiely and Mark, but this, I think, was probably the best dance of the night! I can just imagine Gerard turning on the emotions with this dance! If he keeps producing dances like this, he will definitely get far!
MARK & KYM
I really do think these two are going to be the ones everyone would compare himself or herself to. Mark really turned on the charm, and even though I think his hold might give him some problems, I think he could really be a natural!
LANE & LINDSAY
Like I said pre-season, I think Lane could really work some magic. And he definitely impressed me here tonight! Sure, I think he would definitely have a lot of work to do, but he’s off to a good start! I can’t wait to see what we’ve got in store from Lane next week!
ERIN & TONY
She did a lot better than I was expecting her to do, honestly! I think she’s going to have the support to make it through the first eliminations based on this performance alone. And we’ve still got next week to go! However, at the same time, next week could be Erin’s doom, given what dance she gets.
CINDY & LOUIS
I really enjoy this song, and I think Cindy definitely could portray the emotions needed for this! I’m not convinced that she’s going to be a great dancer just yet, and I hope she gets something slow next week! Fingers crossed she can improve!
JOSH & LACEY
Definitely a fun routine for Josh and Lacey! He, like everyone this season, has some work ahead of him if he wants to stick around. However, I still think he’s going to get tons of votes. And next week will help me determine how far Josh will do in the long run.
CARRIE & DEREK
Very elegant, very clean, very pretty. However, I wanted just a little more than that. I think Carrie could be an awesome dancer, but she needs to be able to portray what the dance requires if she wants her scores to improve. And it’s only week 1, so I definitely think she can do just that!
GUGU & MARK
These two really surprised me too! I’m still not convinced she’ll make it far, but I would imagine if Gugu can impress the readers week after week, she might just stick around! I’m excited for what we get to see from her next week!
ALI & VAL
Fun, fun, fun is one of two things I got from this dance. The second thing I got was nerves, nerves, and nerves. Like I said in pre-season, Ali’s biggest competition will be the one with herself. I do see some potential here, so I’m hoping she can improve for us next week!
Well that’s it for this week! Overall, I think it was a good first week of competition! A lot of potential here so vote, vote and vote!! We can’t do this without you guys!
